MAXUS Intelligence Onboard has been launched
We are excited to announce we have now launched MAXUS Intelligence Onboard and this service is available to all fleets working with MAXUS. Read more and learn what MAXUS Intelligence Onboard is and how the solution can optimise your fleets productivity.
What is it?
Well it’s really exciting, it provides live data from the vehicle, Including, Location, Speed, Harsh events, Driver behaviour information, but best of all, it provides all the EV data to make your transition to Electric Vehicles so much easier, Including: Live state of Charge, charging events, when it’s on and off charge, which enables fleets to increase range, energy consumption in Miles per kWh and how much energy is being added and where and at what price.
Combining all the data into simple reports will help fleets better understand how their EV’s are being driven and help support them with the transition. The system also provides fault codes to you and back to MAXUS improving fleet performance and keeping the vehicle on the road for longer.
Lastly the system will provide data for the MAXUS team to crunch to see battery health, tyre wear usage and intelligent data, all combined will make owning a Maxus vehicle a great experience.
What does this mean for your fleet?
Fleets working with MAXUS will be able to take full advantage of the MAXUS Intelligence Onboard solution which provides all the real-time data through Geotab software, you can get full access by paying a simple monthly subscription, everything else is already built-in to the vehicle.
“Intelligence Onboard will prove to customers that the vehicles will actually do what they say on the tin” – Mark Barrett, General Manager of MAXUS

Video Telematics… Everything you need to know!
Video telematics systems have evolved dramatically from basic vehicle cameras to a multitude of data providing an in-depth understanding of both vehicle and driver information.
What is video telematics?
Video telematics is the combination of video data integrated with vehicle data, providing insightful knowledge into how your fleet is operating when out on the road.
Video telematics involves the installation of a camera system with the ability of a full 360° road view, AI technology, in-cab recordings and alerts, collision reconstruction and sensors around the vehicle to detect when an incident has occurred. This is linked to the vehicle telematics system to provide video and vehicle data, which can all be accessed from a remote location away from the vehicle.
The difference between dash cams and video telematics is dash cams are just a basic level of video with limited visibility and providing little to no data on the driver and vehicle. Video telematics can give you full clarity on any incidents, providing context on driver and vehicle behaviour before, during and after the incident.
The information taken from the video telematics doesn’t only just improve vehicle and driver efficiency but can also ensure fleet safety of the driver and other road users. Fleet managers have started to adopt video telematics system in their fleet to protect their human and physical assets.
Benefits of video telematics
Video telematics is essential for fleet safety and management and there are many benefits to why fleet managers are installing video telematics into their vehicle which include:
Improving driver safety
One of the key benefits to video telematics solutions is improved driver safety through the advanced technology now in the camera systems. Many systems now have AI (Artificial Intelligence) which can detect when a driver is distracted or driving unsafe and will give in-cab alerts signalling to the driver to correct their behaviour and warn them of their unsafe driving. This is critical in the safety of drivers and other road users as in-cab alerts act as an accident prevention system, avoiding any potential accidents before they happen.
Improve driver training
Evaluating driver performance and acting upon the data taken from the video telematics is another benefit of using video telematics in a fleet. The video and vehicle data can be used in coaching drivers a to improve their behaviour when out on the road not only to improve road safety but also vehicle efficiency and cost. These insightful data points which can be shown to drivers can show a visual of what good and bad driving habits look like to encourage better driving habits from drivers.
Through the Geotab telematics system drivers will receive their own driver safety scorecard which is scored on harsh breaking, harsh acceleration, harsh cornering speeding and seat belt usage. This data is useful for driver training and highlighting the key areas of improvement on a driver-by-driver basis. Linked with the camera system, fleet managers can use real time video footage alongside the driver data captured through Geotab to show a visual representation to provide context to the incident to further assist in driver training. The driver safety scorecard data can be used as an incentive for drivers to drive safer and improve behaviour by creating a competition for the safest drivers and reward those drivers who have safe driving habits.
Reduced Insurance Premiums
Video telematics are essential in any insurance claim. Any 50/50 claims or fraudulent claims can easily be resolved through the video telematics as you will be able to provide video and vehicle data. As well as providing video evidence of an incident, your fleet is able to receive collision reconstruction through the Geotab telematics solution to further support your claim. The collision reconstruction provides critical data including trips history, collision and log data, speed profile, accelerometer and RPM graphs. This data can be used alongside the video footage to support any claims about an accident and assist with FNOL (First notification of loss).
Compliance
With the advanced technology now in video telematics, compliance has never been easier to manage. Now with in-cab recordings and live in-cab alerts, drivers can be warned when breaking the law to ensure they are complying with the law. Seat-belt usage, speeding, drinking or eating when driving or the driver using their phone whilst driving can all be detected through the video telematics, allowing fleet managers to manage driver on complying with company policies and the law.
Direct Vision Standard (DVS) compliance
The Direct Vision Standard (DVS) is a new scheme designed to reduce deaths and injuries involved HGVs. London is leading the way with the global programme, with the goal to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries caused by road collisions by 2041. A major contributor to deaths and injuries with HGVs and other road users are the number of blind spots with an HGV. All lorries over 12 tonnes will need to hold a valid HGV safety permit to operate in London or risk a £550 fine. More cities will soon adopt the scheme to ensure road user safety.
What is the Driver Vision Standard
The DVS measures the driver’s view through the windows of an HGV indicating the level of risk to nearby pedestrians and cyclists. Each vehicle will be issued a star rating of zero to five, zero meaning the driver’s vision of a pedestrian is obscured within 4.5 meter of the cab side and a five-star vehicle would afford direct vision of pedestrians and other road users directly next to the vehicle. Any vehicle rated zero stars must be installed with improvements to satisfy the DVS ‘safe system’. However, in 2024 the requirements will become stricter with the rating rising to three stars.
At LEVL we work with best-in-industry video telematics partners and can provide a solution to meet your requirements for any type of camera system including 360, AI systems, 360 systems and fully approved DVS compliant packages. All of the solutions that we provide are fully integrated to the MyGeotab platform with single sign on capability.
